How wisdomteethremoval.ie works

Who gets your request, your health details, and where our figures come from.

Free to send, no obligation. One registered dentist rings you, not five.

How it works

We explain wisdom teeth removal in Ireland, check what yours might involve, and when you send the Removal check and tick the consent box, we pass your answers to one Dental Council registered dentist or oral surgeon who covers your county. They assess you, price the treatment and deal with you directly.

Who gets your request

One dentist or oral surgeon, not a list. We pass it to a dentist on the Dental Council's register who covers your county. You can check any dentist on the Dental Council's register. Nothing is agreed until you've seen them and agreed a price.

Your health details

The Removal check asks about your teeth. We only pass those details on when you tick the box that says so, and only to the one dentist or oral surgeon. The privacy notice explains how to see or delete them.

Where our figures come from

The procedure and recovery from the HSE, the tax rules from Revenue, PRSI from the Department of Social Protection, the prices from what Irish dental practices publish, and the county figures from the CSO's Census 2022. Your dentist decides what your treatment is; our check is a guide.

Check what your removal involves

Four quick taps. You see the likely type of removal, the likely cost, the tax relief and your recovery time. Your number is only asked for at the end, if you want an assessment.

Say one lower wisdom tooth is stuck under the gum: that's usually a surgical removal, typically €250 to €420 at Irish practices, plus €50 to €83 for the x-ray, with 20% tax relief back.

What's going on with the tooth?

Removal isn't automatic: many problems are treated with mouthwash and antibiotics first.

How this is worked out

The likely type of removal comes from what you tell us: a tooth that's stuck under the gum, or partly through in the lower jaw, usually needs a small cut in the gum; one that's through and easy to reach usually comes out whole. The prices are the range Irish dental practices publish for a wisdom tooth, per tooth, plus a panoramic x-ray and, if you pick it, IV sedation. Tax relief is 20% of the removal when it's a surgical extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth. The recovery times are the HSE's. It's a guide to plan with, never a diagnosis or a quote: the dentist decides after an examination and an x-ray.
